What is a Pole Barn?
A Pole Barn is a simple form of construction used originally for barns, garages and equipment sheds. The construction is post-frame which means that it uses heavier posts at wider intervals that typical home construction. The original pole barns were often made from used telephone poles and were commonly roof-only, open wall buildings used to store hay, farm equipment or as covered arenas.
Pole barns are ideal for low cost construction since in many jurisdictions there is no requirement for a foundation, permitting or blueprints. Pole Barns are still a great low cost option regardless of the local requirements. This type of construction is always best if the owner needs a workshop, a barn, a covered parking area, an animal barn, a garage or just a large storage space.
